My uncle, John Schwob, was captain and company commander of the 817th Ordinance Depot Company. He is extremely proud of his service and showed me a lot of his pictures the other night. I am looking for two things for him: 1. A history of his unit, and 2. info on whether any of his men are still alive and involved in any organizations, on-line groups, etc.

I know they landed on Omaha beach around a month after D-Day and set up a supply post at Cherbourg. Gina,

Couple of things you can do.

I cannot locate a listing for the 817th Ordinance Depot Company but have located a silmilar units alumni association. You might want to call them to see if they have some historical information that might be of help to you.

Also try the US Army Ordinance Museum. They should have a historian that can help. http://www.ordmusfound.org/

Finally contact and or search the website at the US Army military History Institute.
