I had a uncle who a member of to one of the Airborne units. He claims that Eisenhower visited them the day before the invasion. he gave a short speech where he said 'some of you men are going to die.' TRUE or False????? My uncle said that he was shocked when he heard this concept. Thank Pat

Why would he be shocked? My dad fought in the Pacific during WWII and certainly knew that some of the guys he landed with would die. It seems to me that anyone in the Airborne units (or any units taking part in D-Day) would assume that some would make it and some wouldn't.

Was he shocked by the concept that some would die, or just that Eisenhower would mention it?

the concept of dying was not verbalizaed, even though there had been casualties in training, apparently there was not actual direct confrontation with the idea.
