A : Were any of the nazi's who confessed to war crimes under duress? Or other wise : had their confessions forced out of them?
Apparently yes. Most of the sentences handed out by the Dachau Tribunal were reduced considerably after controversy over mistreatment of prisoners. The interrogators admitted to things like slapping, shoving, holding fake trials, etc. Some prisoners, however, claimed even more severe abuse. : Were any of the nazi's who confessed to war crimes under duress? Apparently yes. Most of the sentences handed out by the Dachau Tribunal were reduced considerably after controversy over mistreatment of prisoners. The interrogators admitted to things like slapping, shoving, holding fake trials, etc. Some prisoners, however, claimed even more severe abuse. [ How severe abuse is often depends on whether you are giving it or taking it ]. Interrogators reportedly used other tactics, such as threatening family members of the accused, that almost certainly wouldn't pass muster today. And as far as legal standards and procedures....well.... let's just say that the tribunal was rather creative.
