Hi,

I have a specific question.

Today somebody told me that axis forces (Luftwaffe) did airdrop propaganda leaflets in Turkish somewhere in N-Africa and/or the Balkan. Some of these are said to be published in ww2 wartime Turkish newspapers/magazines.

He could not give me any specifics.

Can anybody explain to me what these leaflets could have been?

As far as i know, Turkey was (more or less) neutral. What reason could there have ben to drop them leaflets (outside Turkey) other than Turkish troops fighting for allied or axis armies???

There are substantial Turkish minority populations in Greece, Bulgaria, and elsewhere in the Balkans. I haven't seen the leaflets in question but perhaps there were attempts by the Germans to stir up conflict by these minorities or to gain their sympathy in a general way. I'm not aware of Turkish minority communities in North Africa but perhaps others can supply more information.
