Would The Internet Change The Course Of The War?
Found this interesting question is a post about the 65 Anniversary to the Pearl Harbor Day.
I have to agree that it would have had a huge influence not just on the coverage of the war as a results of blogers stories and cell phones cameras informing everyone immediately about Pearl Harbor but mainly because all the attempts to deny realities in Europe would fail.
It was easy not to believe the stories that came from Europe about the Nazi’s regime, in fact these stories were not believed or ignored even when it was clear that they are true because it was easier not to get involved. Still if the internet and the global village existed there, the story would be very different.
Try to censor news when everyone has a cell phone, a computer and a camera. The recent attempt of Pakistan to block YouTube has shown us that this is no longer possible. Wars need a certain amount of ignorance. Not that there are less wars today but if someone is teaching hatred he knows that his citizens have access to other information. The ability to lie to people, brainwash them and control them against their will is decreasing every passing day.
There are still a lot of conflicts between nations and between national groups as the situation in the middle east shows us, but the ability to hide one’s agenda as it was possible at the first stages of WW II and before is no longer easy.
Lets hope this would indicate a better future for citizens all over the world.
