WWII English Channel ; passenger traffic 1944
currently researching for a fictious film project and would like to ask for your kind help with the
following questions:
1) what was the situation in the english channel and the surrounding sea areas between february and
june 1944, whose nay was predominant? was there any civilian traffic taking place (fishingboats,
....)?
2) how could a civilians (english citicen) travel in the mentioned time from germany to england?
maybe via switzerland, vichy-france, sweden, ...? what means of transportation could one use, and
would one need any permits?

Anyone who ventured out had better be well armed or they were in serious danger. The Allied navies were overwhelmingly diminant, supported by airpower, but the Germans could mount nasty attacks with small fast boats. The waters and coastal land areas were closed to almost all civilians, (except a few locals judged reliable) for security reasons.
The main route was through neutral Spain across the Pyrenees into German-occupied France.
